Film screening “Taiwan Jinsei” (Lives in Taiwan), 2009 Nov 14

 

 

A documentary film about the generation who were raised as Japanese in Taiwan will be screened on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 3:30 p.m. at East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, 1203 West Puente Ave., West Covina, CA 91790. Tickets are $10 at door only. No advance sale.

 

“Taiwan Jinsei” (Lives in Taiwan) directed by Atsuko Sakai depicts the lives of five Taiwanese whose generation was educated in Japanese language and culture before the World War II.

 

After the Chinese Nationalist Party seized Taiwan, Japanese language was forbidden and Japanese culture was denied.

 

The documentary is in Japanese language with Chinese subtitle. No English translation.

 

The film runs 81 minutes. After the screening, Dr. Andy Chang and Dr. Fred Huang who are living in the U.S. will talk about their lives.

 

The screening is sponsored by the Friend of Lee Tong Hui Association in Japan, Los Angeles Brunch.

 

Lee Tong Hui who belongs to the Japanese language generation was the president of Taiwan from 1990 to 2000.
